Pan Chunfang's (潘春芳) creativity
Prof Pan Chunfang (潘春芳), a famous teapot senior craft master in Yixing, is Chu Kexin's disciple. Together with a female colleague by the name of Lee Pifang, both were well known as the two Fangs in Yixing. Prof Pan and his wife, Xu Chenquan, had been to Singapore a number of times, holding their own teapot exhibitions cum sale. Alans Museum had the opportunity to acquire 4 pieces of his art work and 2 pieces of his wife's work. Both were senior craftsmasters at that time. Prof Pan's work includes 2 sets of pumpkin teapots with 4 cups each. These 2 sets of teapot depict the natural form of pumpkin in 2 distinct colour, the red and purplish colour of tradition Yixing clay. Since then Prof Pan had been transferred to Nanjing Academy of Art to train the new generations of potters and artists in art and design work. His teapots are unique in design and he selects the best of Yixing clay to craft his wares.
